Spinal Decompression

Chiropractic treatment can help decompress an area of your spine using a number of techniques to gently stretch it. At Wright Family Chiropractic in Downtown Austin and Cedar Park, TX, Dr. James "Billy" Wright and Dr. Tyler Wright take care of all of your chiropractic needs. If you have pain, stiffness, or poor range of motion, it's time to see how a chiropractor can help you heal from your injuries.

Your Initial Consultation

If our chiropractor discovers an area of your spine that is compressed, the cause of the compression will first be identified. When tissues near your spine are swollen or out of place, this can cause nerve roots to get pinched. If this occurs, you can have pain radiating down your arm or leg. Imaging may be required to figure out what is going on to cause the subluxation or swelling and whether spinal decompression is an appropriate treatment, but we may be able to pin down a likely diagnosis without it.

Spinal Decompression Treatment with a Chiropractor

A chiropractor may use manual techniques to help stretch the area of compression, spinal adjustments to properly align the spine, or traction to help ease the strain on your compressed areas. When you have pain caused by a vertebra out of alignment, adjustments help to ease the strain on your muscles and ligaments. When a disc is herniated, spinal decompression techniques work to create negative pressure within the disc, drawing leaking gel back toward its center. You will need to have treatment several times a week during the early stages of recovery, and eventually taper down to visits once a month. It is possible to feel significant relief after your first treatment using spinal decompression strategies.
